Hot Hawaii travel and vacation deals!

Archive for October, 2009

I am planning a honeymoon for next year. I want to go to Hawaii and I have found some decent deals on Expedia. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the benefits of going through a travel agency as opposed to booking on the internet.
Thanks. I’ve been to Hawaii before, but I didn’t know whether I would save money book through a travel agent, or sticking with purchasing it on Expedia, Priceline, etc.

You won’t save any money booking through Expedia or Priceline. Your honeymoon is very important. You don’t want it spoiled by a bad flight. Choose the airline that has the less demanding flight (preferably nonstop) from your home airport. Book the flight online from that airline’s website. It will be the same price as booking through a travel agency or a so called discount site. If you are not members of that airlines frequent flier club, join. You will earn bonus miles and flight miles on your trip. Book the best seats available and check your account daily to change your seats as better ones become available. Have a great time!

Hello, I am doing a very important project in my school. I am in 8th grade. I need to know about a potential or current human impact in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I also need to know the population of people there, and what ways have the park officials have tried to minimize the impact? I will be so grateful to anyone who is so kind to help me. I am very stressed out and I can’t find the information.

That’s a tough question to answer because Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been managed by the National Park Service since 1916. Humans cannot do anything within the park without permission from the NPS. The Kilauea volcano has been erupting since 1983 and at this point I would say that the volcano has had a greater impact on people than people have had on it. I’ve seen prehistoric structures built by the ancient Hawaiians disappear under the lava. I’ve also seen buildings built within the last 50 years disappear under the lava. Humans can only stand by and watch as the lava seeks a path to the ocean.

There is very little documentation on the internet regarding human impact on the park. If any detailed studies were ever done they’re probably buried in a government archive somewhere. I did come across this document –

http://www.unep-wcmc.org/sites/wh/pdf/Hawaii.pdf

Read the sections on Conservation Management and Management Constraints. You have to read "between the lines" and draw some conclusions of your own. The greatest impact of humans is they are primarily responsible for introducing foreign species (plants and animals) into the eco system which has caused great harm to the indigenous species. Remember that the root cause of all the damage wrought by foreign plants and animals is humans.

Here’s some information on population within the park –

You’ve got a tough assignment because of the lack of information but I suspect your teacher is more interested in your thought processes and writing skills than in the information you produce. I hope the little information I provided here at least gets you started. Good luck!

Ok i need this to sound like it belongs in a science journal rather than a childrens book heheeh please just any opinions welcome!! here it is: (only a few paragraphs)

Volcanoes can be either explosive or non-explosive. However there is a more detailed and complex system of classification. There are 6 types of volcanic eruptions; Icelandic, Hawaiian, Strombolian, Vulcanian, Pelean and Plinian. Mt. Vesuvius is classified into the Plinian volcanic eruption. Plinian eruptions are viscous, extremely explosive, gas-rich magma and have huge eruption columns that can reach a height of 45km into the atmosphere. Plinian eruptions are associated with composite volcanoes such as Mt. Vesuvius and others such as Mt. St. Helens, Mt Fuji and Mt. Pinatubo. The Plinian eruption is named after a Roman admiral who died in the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D, his nephew Pliny, documented the eruption from a boat

During The 79A.D eruption of Mt. Vesuvius among other hazards associated with the volcano, the pyroclastic flow was the most predominant killer. The people of Pompeii would have a great deal of difficulty trying to out run the pyroclastic flow of Mt. Vesuvius. Pyroclastic flows are fast moving clouds of gas and rock which can travel at speeds up to 700km/h, but generally at 100km/h. This gas while being extremely toxic is of extremely high heat, over 400 degrees Celsius. When the pyroclastic material is hot and glowing, it is referred to as “nuée ardente” meaning “glowing clouds” in French.

Thanks so much!!

IVE MADE MORE CHANGES! I KNOW ITS LONG BUT PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ EVERYTHING!

Ok, so I have this story and the first time I recieved comments saying it was too much like Twilight. Well, after some major self-esteem boost, and WONDERFUl help from a friend, I reconstructed, and I want to know if it’s still too much like Twilight. I’ve got the same idea ((read link)) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap0RiI6hc_BnJOuCcwt8YXvty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090304150715AAc7Dwh but these are my changes:

I’m making it to where the family looks even more normal. There are going to be two seperate households, _____ and ____. Not saying names here. They will have two "guardians" and look like normal kids, which will look even more regular as them dating. The story is the parents have been friends for a long time, and their kids just decided to date. But I’m still going to refer to them as one "clan" of merpeople. And the two female guardians stories are basically going to be they have been friends since they were children, and the two male guardians are going to be brothers ((but the humans don’t know that…because none of them are actually related except for those two males and two other characters)) so it’s okay for them to date. But like I said, the humans don’t know the two male guardians are brothers, so it seems normal that their kids are dating.

I’ve decided to change her uncle Ron, to becoming an aunt Rhonda, who is sort of hectic and wild. But really caring and stuff. And Lilly and Kate will be very familiar with Rhonda – they’ll have their own rooms, they’ve stayed there over summers before, it’s nothing foreign.

And, The skin of the merpeople will be somewhat disguised. It won’t have that blue appearance to the rest of the humans, just Lilly and Kate ((because their meant to be merpeople))

And I’ve changed Ron’s, now Rhonda, and the two male merpeople guardians jobs to marine biologists ((they were originally surgeous)) and they will just go work at an aquarium in a bigger city and occasionally travel on business trips out of state.

The ending — I’ve changed it to when my two main characters are in the water, and the Hawaiian comes up and sees them, my main character will quickly sense him and get out. They will never take my main character away, instead they will stay at home, and my main character will get these dreams of the Siren girl ((she is with the merpeople, but she’s "purebread" Siren)) luring her into the water with her voice. That is how she will reach her death, but she doesn’t die!! The end is secret! :]

So, is still too much like Twilight??

OH!

and is it a big deal that she moves there, and that the merpeople already live there?? I mean does that aspect trigger your mind to Twilight?? All I’m saying, is that I don’t see why it’s a big deal that she moves there, and she meets them at school. Is that something i should change??

Will you help please?? Is it still too much like Twilight??
No, this is the first book I’ve ever fully accomplished. I would atleast try to get it somewhere. Of course I’m not just writing it for myself!

I think its very good, something I would like to read. Who cares if is like Twilight, it’s your writing, and besides to me I don’t think it sounds like Twilight.

So far every vampire book I have read, vampires have always had to live like that, like normal humans, so dont worry about it and continue to write, it seems very good.

Does anyone know where I can find a pre-packaged Hawaii vacation for cheap? I don’t know which island is the cheapest, but also nice. I am looking more for isolation than the city. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks!

I just took a look at the orbitz site. there are so many packages to Hawaii.
Other sites will have these as well.
Your best bet is to go work with a travel agent. They can help you plan a package that meets your needs.

Have Fun.

Around Mid July, traveling on weekdays…Also is there a way to get discounts for buying for a group of 9??? I want to obvisouly get the best deal! I’m frugal and so are the other 8. :)

If you are buying for 9 you should call them directly and see what their policy is before you book

I was planning a vacation to Hawaii and before I book it and reserve it, I wanted to make sure that it didn’t require a passport because my passport has expired and I don’t think I have enough time to get it done this summer. So I was wondering would an Driver’s License, ID, or an Student ID be ok to go on a Hawaiian cruise?
Thank You so much for answering my question!
Thank You so much for answering my question!

So long as the ship stops only in Hawaii, you do not need a passport. However, the cruise line may require one anyway, so be sure to find out! As to your expired passport, it doesn’t really take very long at all to renew, so why not do it anyway? It’s wonderful ID for all sorts of travel.

Outsiders as in people from the contiguous states, like anyone in particular who’s not a native of Hawaii, b/c i heard they offer special scholarships to the contiguous states and other places to bring in more tourism and industry. I live in Georgia and I really want to go there.

You can get info about such college scholarships and grants online here – colleges.mywebcommunity.org

Hawaii Airline Travel?

I need to know how to get the best deals and when on airline travel? I’m trying to go to Hawaii March 15-19 ish and I REALLY don’t want to pay over 700 dollars. Is this possible?

from OKC-Kona

I would suggest that you try to bundle the trip and buy airfare, hotel and car rental. You can really save some money. I did that when my wife and I went to Kauai on our honeymoon. If you buy the plane tickets separately, you can try the different travel websites including http://www.kayak.com.
