Outsiders as in people from the contiguous states, like anyone in particular who’s not a native of Hawaii, b/c i heard they offer special scholarships to the contiguous states and other places to bring in more tourism and industry. I live in Georgia and I really want to go there.

I need some suggestions and ideas on what to do on a Hawaiian vacation, where to go, best beaches, sites to see…. let me learn from your trip! be as detailed as possible, and thanks in advance!

I would definitely recommend Kauai if have the time. It’s one of the most natural laid back islands in Hawaii. Because it’s the oldest, it has a lot of fine sandy beaches and on most of them, you will be all alone to enjoy it. If you like activities, try hiking the Napali coast. It’s difficult, a little dangerous, and it leads to a secluded beach and waterfall that you can only reach by foot. On the west side of the island, there’s Waimea canyon which is almost like seeing the grand canyon. What a diverse island! However, if you are looking for more of a party scene, you would probably wanna do Waikiki. They’ve got the best night life in Hawaii. You can hike up Diamond Head, check out a luau. (I’ll warn you, poi (gray pasty food) is nasty). Enjoy your trip!

What countries does the state of Hawaii do business with?

Just a simple list of 2 or 3 will do.

Australia and China account for about 40%, the USA accounts for about 50%, 10% other with large contributors being the Phillippines, and Indonesia. A lot of Laosian and Vietnamese food stuffs too.

My boss gets married this weekend, and is off for 3 weeks of honeymoon in Hawaii. One thing left out of the planning was where to have Thanksgiving dinner.

Anyone have a recommendation for a restaurant on the big island?

If you where half way between Hawaii and California, would the climate mostly be tropical or still cold?

You have to be south of the tropic of caner and north of the tropic of capricorn. You would have to be pretty close because Hawaii is not too far south of the tropic of capricorn or you could just be parallel to it. Accroding to the Köppen climate classification, you just have to be anywhere the mean temperature for each month doesn’t fall below 18C/64Fon average in order for somewhere to be considered tropical.

I’m building a box garden for my yard this week, I wanted to know what vegetables grow well here in Hawaii. Without a cold season, and it being September, what would grow well this winter? I appreciate any advice, I’ve been doing my research but haven’t stumbled upon any websites specific to this region. Thank you!

While there is the idea of "seasonlessness" in Hawaii, this is not exactly true. Because Hawaii is not directly on the equator, there is some variation regarding weather. It is mostly either a day length issue or a heat issue for plants that have trouble in Hawaii. While in the fall and summer, lettuce is known to bolt because of the heat, in the winter, it can do quite nicely. May I recommend looking into "short day" crops which are available for many crops, including onions. Eggplant does well in Hawaii, as does sweet potato, and most radishes. Feel free to experiment and see what takes and what doesnt. My advice, be careful with tomato, it is a great plant, but fruits excessively in Hawaii and could cause fruit flies. Good luck!
