From Houston is difficult because it's the Continental hub and that non-stop flight to Honolulu is usually fairly expensive. I've seen it for $500 in May, but that was two years ago. You can try Hawaiian Airlines from one of their gateway west coast cities, and then find a cheaper flight to that city on another airline (like Southwest).
