What do I need to bring on a vacation to Hawaii?
I’ll be staying with a friend, and I’ll be there for a week. I remember when others I know have gone on cruises and tropical vacations, there was SO MUCH STUFF they had to bring. I have a month to get ready. What do I need to bring with me?
Aloha, congratulations on your upcoming trip to HI!!!
It is lovely in HI this time of year so dont worry about warm clothes. Maybe one pair of long pants & a lite jacket are all you’ll need
Shorts/nicer short pants
t-shirt/tank-top maybe 1 nice top if you’re going out
swim suit – swim cover up
hat (trust me on this one, bring a hat to keep the sun off)
sunscreen, sunglasses
good walking shoes if you’re touring around
camera
you can buy flip-flops (slippers) cheaply when you get there – you can also get t-shirts & paraeo (swim coverup) cheaply when you get there – a hat too if you want – so there is not terribly much to pack. Nice that you’re staying with a friend who probably has a lot of the basics already (sunscreen, bandaids, aloe)

This time of year the weather is 80-85 during the day and 70-75 at night. It’s the rainy season so bring a rain coat. You should be alright with shorts, tank tops, tee-shirts, and flip-flops. Also bring at least one pair of pants and sweatshirt in case you do get cold. Swimsuit of coarse, sun glasses, sun screen (buy it here), camera, a hat.
Sun screen is important. The sun is powerful here, only 20 minutes can give you a sun burn. Don’t get sun burnt the first day cause the rest of your week will then be ruined.
