Where to have Thanksgiving dinner on the big island of Hawaii?

My boss gets married this weekend, and is off for 3 weeks of honeymoon in Hawaii. One thing left out of the planning was where to have Thanksgiving dinner.

Anyone have a recommendation for a restaurant on the big island?

I’ve located a local directory of restaurants that might help. You can drill down the Hawaii results by cities nearby to you. If you phone nearby restaurants you can narrow down wich one would work best for you. http://www.restaurantreviewsratings.com/Hawaii-Restaurants.html

There are so many great restaurants on Big Island. If you want to know some of the best places to eat, here’s a list: http://www.hawaii.com/hawaiian-information/bigisland/diningandentertainment/restaurants.php

Local hotels will be having Thanksgiving dinner, some will be traditional American, others traditional Hawaii – but most offer a nice mixture of the two. The Hilton Waikoloa Village is having a special dinner buffet prepared by an executive chef. http://www.hiltonwaikoloavillage.com/events/index.asp#turkey

For something more intimate, the Kilauea Lodge has a nice Thanksgiving dinner every year. I’d give them a call to see if they’re still doing it this year, just to be sure. Check out: http://www.kilauealodge.com

The 10th annual Waikiki Holiday Parade will be held this year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It’s truly a sight to behold and your boss should enjoy it with his new wife (assuming they’re not into Black Friday shopping). Check it out here: http://www.marching.com/events/honolulu But they’d have to be willing to go to up to Oahu for it.

It’s called the Big Island for a Reason. Which side is he staying at, Kona side or Hilo?

For a nice restaurant, he may want to head to Waimea and try Daniel Thebieut’s Restaurant or Merrimans. (Closer to Kona, about an hour drive). If he is staying on the Kohala Coast, there is Roys at the Kings Shops in Waikoloa, or Ruth’s Chris at the Shops at Mauna Lani.

If he is on Hilo, that is harder. He can check out Ken’s Pancake House, not a classy place, not even a great place, but a favorite with the locals.
