Which side is he staying at, Kona side or Hilo? For a nice restaurant, he may want to head to Waimea and try Daniel Thebieut's Restaurant or Merrimans. (Closer to Kona, about an hour drive). If he is staying on the Kohala Coast, there is Roys at the Kings Shops in Waikoloa, or Ruth's Chris at the Shops at Mauna Lani. If he is on Hilo, that is harder.
