I am looking at going to Hawaii for my 10 year anniversary. Which island is the best one for this type of vacation? What time of year is the best time to go to Hawaii? Any suggestions for a hotel?

I think Maui is not as crowded as the Honolulu area, and it has great beaches. It also has a lot to do there, and is pretty. You can get the best rates in the fall to stay there- I know of a condo that is renting at $80/nt. for the fall, and it is near a great beach. Owner owned condos can be a better deal- for about half the price of a hotel. You can also make you meals in the kitchens, and save money there. Planning a Havaian vacation but really don't know what is the best island or group of islands to see.I would like to get the best overall vacation.I would like to see Pearl Harbor,some volcanos and spend some time on a nice beach.I would also like to squeeze in a helicopter ride if possible.Anyone know of any package deals? I see this as probably a one time trip because I'm on the east coast.Most of my vacations are more reasonable to Mexico or the Carribean because of travel.

My husband and I just got back from taking a cruise around the islands, it was really fun and we got to see the main 4 islands, Hawaii, Maui, Kuaui and Oahu. We went with NCL, here's their website:

They have different itineraries and you can sign up to do shore excursions, like the helicoper rides. We didn't do it because it was too expensive but we went on 4 other shore excursions so it was fun. I'm really glad we decided on taking a cruise instead of flying from island to island because it was really easy. Good luck planning and have fun!

My hubby and I were planning on going to Hawaii for a few days in June.
I was wondering what place is best to stay to get the most out of it.
We want to get do some sight seeing of things like volcanoes and do some water sports. I would also like to check out a luau if possible.
I have heard that Honolulu is a packed city and I don't know that I want to be there, because I really don't care for the "big city" aspect of vacationing.
So what would you suggest?

If you dont want the "big city" vaca, dont plan to stay on Oahu (Honolulu, Waikiki) This is all city, all tourists. You will see your volcanos on the Big Island, Luaus on any island (you can find them everywhere) Maui is more laid back and romantic.

This mornings lava tour was a private boat tour with Bob & Andy 2 professional photographers who were in search of the ultimate lava photos. Due to multiple lava flows & fairly calm seas the lava show was great this morning.
